Panoramic Heads

Postby ThomasLeong on Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:40 am

Just received my Nodal Ninja 3 MkII package. Now evaluating a DSLR and lens. Intend to specialize in golf courses since I have to be there first thing before dawn and almost last to leave at dusk anyway, and access permissions and my own golf buggy are not a problem for me the whole week of the event. I also bought Autopano Pro for stitching the multiple shots.

Anyone doing this? - multiple shots with DSLR or digital cam, stitching into a pano, etc...
Any suggestions on camera and tripod or monopod, and things to wacthout for? I need it all to be light and small 'cos i'm a small man, and I have other things to lug, especially my black coffee flask, raingear, Rules books, etc.
Am considering the Olympus E420 or E520 with kit lens for starters, or the Canon G9.

Thanks for the url Kevin. interesting but not much definitive info for one who intends to use the G9 as the main camera.

Found one for the Olympus -
http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/index.html
with lots of info on the four-thirds system and the the possibility of using my Nikon F3 lenses on the E-series. However, the adapter costs $175. Yikes!

I'd go for the Nikon D60 (right price) but it does not have AE bracketing which I want/need. Maybe I should re-visit my wants/needs??

So far the initial tests with the Nodal Ninja 3 MkII is very good...using my point-and-shoot Panasonic FX100 on an el cheapo tripod, and eye-balling my Entrance Pupil to the FX100 lens at its widest of 28mm. Autopano Pro had no problems stitching the test shoots accurately...so far.

Actually Autopano Pro did not have much problems stitching my hand-held panos shot with my 2-megapixel camera phone! At 99euros I'd rate the software a good buy.

Ah well...more window shopping this weekend. I'm in no hurry.
