RSS Feeds possible?

Postby Martin Messer on Thu May 24, 2007 6:59 am

Hi Thomas,

the Yahoo Forum has the possibility to get any new postings with an RSS Feed. Since I am not very used to forums I'm just plainly asking you if RSS is possible in this forum too?

Thanks

Martin

RSS Feed?...yes (I think)

Postby ThomasLeong on Thu May 24, 2007 11:44 am

Martin,
I found the following at the Support Forum for freeforums.org -

Have you installed your toolbar? If not, you can use that to get the rss feeds for posts and pms.
If you don't want to download the bar, do this instead:

If you use Firefox

Go to Tools > Options > Feeds - and enable "subscribe to the feed using" and then enable "Live Bookmarks", then click OK. Then take your RSS feed URL
( http://multidisplays.freeforums.org/ebt ... osts&num=5 ) and copy it into your browser's address bar. A pop up will appear: "Add Live Bookmark" and then click OK. It will appear along with your bookmark toolbar links.

If you use Internet Explorer 7:

Go to the browser address bar and copy your RSS feed URL there:
http://multidisplays.freeforums.org/ebt ... osts&num=5
This will open up a window asking if you would like to subscribe to the feed.

Hope that works for you. If you download the Toolbar and use it to get a feed, and it works, please let us all know. Thanks.

Thomas

RSS Feeds update.

I have found out that there are only 2 RSS Feeds available from this forum, viz.
- latest forum posts; and
- pm box (private/personal? mailbox)

The only way to get these feeds is by installing the Toolbox from the forum. There are quite a number of features in the Toolbox - Google search, Forum search of all posts, direct link to forum by clicking on Toolbox name, radio button, pop-up blocker, etc.

The bad news is that both the above RSS Feeds currently do not work because of a coding error since the last server upgrade. We are waiting for freeforums.org to solve this.

RSS Feeds - maybe an answer

Postby ThomasLeong on Fri May 25, 2007 7:06 pm

Perhaps there is no need to download the Toolbox for those who already have a RSS Reader installed. Try adding these urls to your Reader -

Component: Latest Forum Posts
URL: multidisplays.freeforums.org/ebtx/ebtx.php?x=posts&num=5
Component Type: RSS

Component: Personal Messages
URL: multidisplays.freeforums.org/ebtx/ebtx.php?x=pmb&num=5
Component Type: RSS

Component: Admin Messages
URL: multidisplays.freeforums.org/ebtx/ebtx.php?x=pmba&num=5
Component Type: RSS

Please let us know if this works for you. Thanks.

RSS Feeds - Update 2

Postby ThomasLeong on Sun May 27, 2007 4:23 pm

If anyone is having problems with the Posts (and PM) Feeds, please try changing the 'num=20' to 'num=5' which seems to work best. Support advises a single digit num, but I tried =6, =9 with not much success. I have since corrected my initial post to refect this.

Also, ERRATA in my initial post.
Typo error for the Posts component -
URL: multidisplays.freeforums.org/ebtx/ebtx.php?x=pmba&num=20

when it should have been-
URL: multidisplays.freeforums.org/ebtx/ebtx.php?x=posts&num=5
as shown now.

- update 3 (latest; as at 16 June 2007)

AFAIK, the RSS Feed for recent posts using the downloaded Toolbar now works.

It looks like either the Freeforum.org guys or the Toolbar supplier guys have fixed the RSS Feed issue with the correct code lines.

Hi all!

RSS works also now with Firefox! See the post of Thomas in this topic for reference to the correct code lines.

Regards
